Sister M. Rosanne McFarland, IHM

Sister M. Rosanne McFarland, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, July 22, 1971 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on April 25, 1893 in Avoca, Pennsylvania, and given the name Anna. She was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Monaghan McFarland. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 24, 1924, received the religious habit on December 29, 1924, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1926.

Sister Rosanne served as a teacher of commercial subjects at St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA, and St. Alphonsus High School in New York, NY.

Sister served as principal at Immaculate Conception High School in Lock Haven, PA, from 1956 to 1962. 

At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, she served as a teacher of commercial subjects, dean of students from 1947 to 1949, and business manager from 1949 to 1956.

From 1962 until the time of her death, Sister Rosanne served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, William James, Leo and Joseph.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Elizabeth McFarland of Wilkes-Barre, PA, nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
