Sister M. Ephrem Carmody, IHM

Sister M. Ephrem Carmody, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, March 11, 1978 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on February 21, 1915, in Brooklyn, NY, and given the name Kathleen Teresa.  She was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Margaret Brosnan Carmody. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1936, made temporary profession of her vows on May 8, 1939, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1942. 

Sister Ephrem served as a teacher in the following schools: St. John the Evangelist High School in Scranton, PA, from 1939 to 1943; St. Mary of the Mount High School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1943 to 1948; Sacred Hearts High School in New York, NY, from 1948 to 1949; St. Mary High School in Manhasset, NY from 1949 to 1957; and Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, NY, from 1957 to 1969.  

From 1969 until the time of her death, Sister Ephrem served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by four brothers, James, Martin, Francis and Cornelius, and four sisters, Josephine, Ellen (Nellie), Helen and Noreen.

She is survived by a brother, Reverend John of Bridgehampton, NY, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Carroll of Brooklyn, NY, and Sister M. Bernadette, IHM of Scranton, PA, nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
