Sister M. Cyril Scanlon, IHM

Sister M. Cyril Scanlon, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Wednesday, June 26, 1985, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on January 10, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, and was daughter of the late Walter and Mary Agnes Keliher Scanlon. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1942, received the religious habit on May 10, 1943, and made profession of her vows on May 8, 1945.

Sister Cyril served as a language and history teacher at the following schools: Holy Rosary High School in Scranton, PA; St. Patrick High School in Olyphant, PA; St. Joseph High School in Renovo, PA; Mother of Mercy HIgh School in Washington, North Carolina; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, NY; and Maria Regina Diocesan High School in Uniondale, NY; as well as high schools located in Pittsburgh, PA.

Sister served as principal at St. John High School in Pittston, PA; St. Joseph High School in Renovo, PA; and St. Patrick High School in Olyphant, PA.

She is preceded in death by two brothers.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Rita Ferris of Oyster Bay, NY; and Mrs. Dorothy Cahill of Bohemia, NY; several nieces and nephews. 

The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Thursday afternoon or evening.
