Sister M. Paulus Dwyer, IHM

Sister M. Paulus Dwyer, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, February 14, 1980 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on January 12, 1895 in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, and given the name Margaret.  She was the daughter of the late William and Catherine Maher Dwyer. She entered the IHM Congregation on May 24, 1921, received the religious habit on August 2, 1921, made profession of her vows on August 15, 1923, and made final vows on December 8, 1930.

Sister Paulus served as a teacher in the following schools: St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA, from 1923 to 1924; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1924 to 1942; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1942 to 1946; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Lock Haven, PA, from 1946 to 1947; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1947 to 1953; and St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1968 to 1969. 

Sister served as principal at the following schools: St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1947 to 1953 and 1955 to 1959; St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI, from 1959 to 1968.

She also served as a social service worker at St. Joseph's Shelter in Scranton, PA; and as a tutor at St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA, from 1969 to 1974. 

From 1974 until the time of her death, Sister Paulus served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent. 

She is preceded in death by five brothers, Michael J., William G., John T., Patrick and Thomas P., and two sisters, Catherine and Anastasia "Stacie" M.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, including, Nancy Dwyer of York, PA, and Dr. Edward Dwyer, D.D.S., of Plymouth, PA.
