Sister M. Alexandra Quillan, IHM

Sister M. Alexandra Quillan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, October 20, 1967 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

She was born on September 26, 1893 in Newburgh, New York, and given the name Anna Marie. She was the daughter of the late Edward Francis and Katherine Cecilia Ryan Quillan. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 1, 1915, received the religious habit on July 7, 1915, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1917.

Sister Alexandra served as a teacher at the following schools: Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA, from 1917 to 1918; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1918 to 1919 and 1925 to 1928; IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID, from 1919 to 1925; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1928 to 1934; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1934 to 1940 and 1945 to 1955; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1940 to 1943; Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Inwood, NY, from 1943 to 1944; St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York, NY from 1944 to 1945; and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA, from 1955 to 1957.

Sister also served as receptionist at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, PA, from 1957 to 1966.

From 1966 until the time of her death, Sister Alexandra served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen (infant) and Katherine Cecilia Flynn, and a brother, William E.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
