Sister M. Serenus Yahner, IHM

Sister M. Serenus Yahner, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on May 13, 1970 at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of the late Isadore P. and Mary Lavinia Wilt Yahner, she was born on December 28, 1902 in Hastings, PA; and given the name Genevieve M. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 21, 1920, received the religious habit on August 2, 1920, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1922.

Sister Serenus served as a teacher in the following schools: Immaculate Conception in Lock Haven; St. Joseph in Renovo; St. Patrick in White Haven; Cathedral in Scranton; and St. Agnes in Lock Haven.

She is preceded in death by five brothers, Paul, Germain, Edwin A., Rev. Cyprian and James B.; and three sisters, Gertrude; Sr. M. Immaculate, IHM; and Sr. Casilda, OSB.

She is survived by a sister, Sister Geraldine M. OSB; a brother, Charles; and nephews.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
