Sister M. Benedict Marron, IHM

Sister M. Benedict Marron, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, September 30, 1900.

She was born on March 13, 1835, and given the name Mary.  She entered at the IHM Congregation in Reading, PA, on August 31, 1859, received the religious habit on December 8, 1859, and made profession of her vows on December 8, 1860.

Sister Benedict served as a teacher at Select School for Girls in Reading, PA, which opened in September of 1859; then she assisted Sister Agnes with the female junior students at St. Joseph School in Susquehanna, PA.  She assisted Mother Mary in opening a convent in Manayunck, PA, in 1863 where she remained until 1865. In 1865, she was assigned to St. Teresa's Convent in Haycock, PA, where she remained until 1866. In 1866, she went to St. Mary's Convent in Lebannon, PA. In 1867 she returned to Manayunck, where she stayed until being sent to St. Alphonsus Academy in Susquehanna, PA, in 1868. In 1871 the Scranton Diocese was formed, and Sister Benedict remained with the Scranton branch of IHM Sisters.  She also served as a teacher at Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, and St. Basil Academy in Dushore, PA.

Interment is at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
