Sister Mary Herman McLaughlin, IHM

Sister Mary Herman McLaughlin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, July 24, 1978.

She was born on September 8, 1895 in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, and given the name Rebecca. She was the daughter of the late Matthew and Eliza Butler McLaughlin. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8,1915, received the religious habit on December 28, 1915, and made profession of her vows on January 3, 1918.

Sister Mary Herman served as a teacher in the following intermediate and high schools: Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA; St. Paul School in Scranton, PA; St. Paul School in New Bern, NC; St. Rita Elementary School in Dundalk, MD; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; and Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA.   

From 1970 until the time of her death, Sister Mary Herman served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Matthew, Robert, John, Thomas, and David, and four sisters, Elizabeth, Margaret, Isabella "Belle", Mary Agnes Mattern.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
