Sister M. Nepomucene Caffrey, IHM
Sister M. Nepomucene Caffrey, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, August 26, 1942 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after a brief illness.
She was born on November 12, 1880 in White Haven, Pennsylvania, and given the name Loretta. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Eliza) Mackesy (or Mac Asy) Caffrey. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1900, received the religious habit on December 31, 1900, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1902.
Sister Neopmucene served as teacher at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton, PA; St. Cecillia School in Exeter, PA; St. Ephrem School in Brooklyn, NY; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School in Sugar Notch, PA; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Peter's Cathedral School in Scranton, PA; as well as at elementary schools located in Lock Haven, PA. She served as superior at St. Paul's Convent in Scranton, PA, and St. Rose Convent's in Carbondale, PA.
From 1938 until the time of her death, Sister Neopmucene served as teacher at St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Anna and Sister M. Columba, IHM; and a brother, John.
She is survived by four sisters, Sister M. Cyrenia, IHM, of West Chester, PA; Mrs. Mary Lawless of Newark, NJ; Mrs. James McNamara of Philadelphia, PA; Jule of Philadelphia; and nieces and nephews, including Sister M. Cyrenia, IHM, stationed at Danville, PA, and Sister Cyrenia Marie, IHM, stationed at Philadelphia, PA.
Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill, Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

Sister M. Nepomucene, superior of St. Rose Convent and School at Carbondale, died this morning in St. Joseph's Hospital, Carbondale, after a brief illness.
A member of the Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary since Jan. 4, 1900, Sister Nepomucene was well known in religious and educational circles in this section of the state.
A native of White Haven and a daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth Mackesy Caffrey, Sister Nepomucene studied at St. Rose's ia (sic) Carbondale which was then the motherhouse of the order and was the first member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Order to take her vows at Mount St. Mary's, now Marywood College. Sister Nepomucene was professed on Dec. 27, 1902
In her long career as a teacher, Sister Nepomucene served at Bellefonte, Lock Haven, Patton, Wyoming (sic), Brooklyn, N. Y.; Renova (sic), Sugar Notch, St. Paul's Convent and School, Green Ridge, Scranton, and St. Peter's Cathedral School, this city.
Sister Nepomucene was in charge of St. Rose's Convent and School for four years.
Surviving are four sisters, Sister M. Cyrenia, stationed at West Chester; Mrs. Mary Lawless of Newark, N. J.; Mrs. James MacNamara of Philadelphia, and Miss Jule McCatfrey(sic), also of Philadelphia. Two nieces, Sister Cyrenia, stationed at Danville, and Sister Cyrenia Marie, stationed at Philadelphia, also survive.
Interment will be in the Sisters Plot, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill."
