Sister M. deNeri McLane, IHM
Sister M. deNeri McLane, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Saturday, June 19, 1993, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.
She was born on June 12, 1904 in Archbald, Pennsylvania, and given the name Elizabeth. She was daughter of the late John and Bridget Cawley McLane. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1922, was received into the novitiate on December 28, 1922, and made profession of her vows on December 29, 1924.
Sister deNeri served as a teacher of intermediate grades at the following schools: St. Mary School in Avoca, PA; St. Leo in Ashley, PA; and St. John the Evangelist in Scranton, PA; as well as at schools located in New York, Maryland and North Carolina.
Sister also as principal at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist in Scranton, PA; St. Ambrose in Bridgeport, CT; as well as at schools located in Altoona and Hollidaysburg, PA.
Sister deNeri also served as the superior of the local community at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, PA, and St. Joseph's Center in Scranton, PA.
From 1988 until the time of her death, Sister deNeri served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and John, two sisters, Mary D. Lally and Agnes McLane, and an aunt, Sister Mary Martin Cawley, IHM.
She is survived by two sisters, Sister M. Basil, IHM, of Scranton, PA, and Sister Agnes Teresa, SC, of Pittsburgh, PA, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday, with Mass of Christian Burial at 7:30 p.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Rev. Joseph A. Cawley will be celebrant of the Mass. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call Monday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.

Sister deNeri was a a very special person. She possessed many personal gifts: goodness, kindness, a quick wit, patience, selflessness and a never-ending smile. She was concerned for everyone. A great story teller and fudge maker, Sister created a great community spirit. Most of all, she was holy and prayerful. Loved by all, old and young alike, she still lives in the hearts of many whose lives she touched.
