Sister Margaret Cotter, IHM
Sister Margaret Cotter, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Terrentius) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Monday, May 31, 1993, at the Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.
She was born on October 25, 1928 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Terrence J. and Mary Ahearn Cotter. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1946, received the religious habit on May 8, 1947, and made profession of her vows on May 9, 1949.
Sister Margaret served as a math teacher at the intermediate and junior high levels at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA; Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clark's Green, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; as well as at schools located in New York, North Carolina, and Maryland.
Sister also served as principal at St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA.
More recently, Sister Margaret served as a development office support staff member at Marywood College in Scranton, PA; ministered as a case manager for Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Brooklyn, New York; and, prior to her last illness, was an assistant in the business office at the IHM Center in Scranton, PA.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and music, a Master of Science degree in mathematics education, and a Master of Arts degree in counseling, all from Marywood College. She also did further study at Saint John's University in Brooklyn, New York.
She is survived by three sisters, Maureen Morgan of Pottstown, PA, Kathleen Adornato of Susquehanna, PA, and Mrs. Andrew Yoder of Uniontown, OH, a brother, Anthony of Corning, NY, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday, June 2 with Mass of Christian Burial at 7:30 p.m. at the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow Pennsylvania. Friends may call on Tuesday afternoon or evening.
