Sister M. Dorette Coleman, IHM
Sister M. Dorette Coleman, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, August 21, 1997 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on March 29, 1909 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary Catherine. She was the daughter of the late Hugh J. and Anastasia Rice Coleman. She entered the Congregation on September 8, 1932, made temporary profession of her vows on August 30, 1935, and final profession of her vows on August 1, 1938.
Sister Dorette served as a teacher in the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA. from 1935 to 1938; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA, from 1938 to 1939; St. Mary Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1939 to 1941; St. Francis Elementary School in Munhall, PA, from 1941 to 1946; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1946 to 1948; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA, from 1948 to 1956; St. Clare Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1956 to 1957; St. Paul Elementary School in New Bern, NC, from 1957 to 1959; Sacred Heart Elementary School in La Plata, MD, from 1959 to 1961; and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA, from 1964 to 1967.
From 1967 until the time of her death, Sister Dorette served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Stewart.
She is survived by a sister, Katherine Sadler of Dunwoody, GA, nieces and nephews.

A woman whose life mirrored a grateful heart, Sr. Dorette Coleman lived a life marked with deep faith, endless patience and a generous spirit that sustained her during 30 years of physical limitations and suffering. She used the gift of her keen sense of humor to not only make light of her own burdens but also to ease those of others.
