Sister M. Dolorese Lyons, IHM

Sister M. Dolorese Lyons, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Wednesday, September 22, 1982 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on December 3, 1890 in Scranton, PA, and was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Mary A. Gerrity Lyons.  She entered the IHM Congre­gation on September 7, 1919, received the religious habit on December 27, 1919 and made profession of vows on December 29, 1921.

Sister Dolorese served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Ashville, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY; St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School in Sugar Notch, PA; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in West Pittston, PA; and St. Thomas Elementary School in Providence, RI. 

Sister Dolorese served as principal and teacher at St. Michael's School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA. She also served as the superior at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1961 to 1967. 

From 1971 until the time of her death, Sister Dolorese served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Frank.

She is survived by a grandniece, Alice McGonigle of Dalton, PA.

The funeral will be Friday, September 24 with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday afternoon or evening.
