Sister M. Gerardus Turi, IHM

Sister M. Gerardus Turi, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Wednesday, June 18, 1985, at the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, after an illness.

Daughter of the late Sebastian and Rose Marie Romano Turi, she was born on June 7, 1916, in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1934, received the religious habit on April 30, 1935, and made profession of her vows on May 3, 1937.

Sister Gerardus served as a teacher at the following schools: Holy Rosary in Scranton; St. Patrick in Scranton; Nativity in Scranton; Immaculate Conception in Scranton; Our Lady of Good Counsel in Inwood, NY; Mother of Mercy in Washington, NC; St. Peter of Alcantara in Port Washington, NY; and St. Leo in Ashley.

She is survived by a sister, Stella of Scranton; a brother, Stephen of Moscow; and a nephew, Reverend John J. Turi, St. Joseph's Rectory in Matamoras.

The funeral will be Saturday; with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Friday afternoon or evening.
