Sister Mary Neumann Murray, IHM

Sister Mary Neumann Murray, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, December 4, 1972 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on August 26, 1894 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and given the name Hilda Ann. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Annie Kenna Murray. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1913, received the religious habit on December 28, 1913, and made profession of her vows on December 30, 1915.

Sister Mary Neumann served as a teacher in the following schools: Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Paul Elementary School in Providence, RI; St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA; St. Justin Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in New Bern, NC; St. Monica Elementary School in Raleigh, NC; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ; Sacred Heart Elementary School in La Plata, MD; St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA; Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School in Rocky Mount, NC; St. Ann Elementary School in Nyack, NY; St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY; and St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York, NY.

She served as the principal in the following schools: St. Joseph Elementary School in New Bern, NC, from 1932 to 1933; St. Monica Elementary School in Raleigh, NC, from 1933 to 1934; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ, from 1934 to 1936; Sacred Heart Elementary School in La Plata, MD, from 1936 to 1942; and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA.

From 1971 until the time of her death, Sister Mary Neumann served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, an infant boy, John Paul (infant), William Joseph, and Newman V., and a sister, Annie (infant).

She is survived by a brother, John Joseph.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
