Sister M. Patricius McAndrew, IHM

Sister M. Patricius McAndrew, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, July 8, 2001 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on April 23, 1911 in Avoca, Pennsylvania, and given the name Elizabeth. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Kearney McAndrew.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1929, made temporary profession of her vows on April 21, 1932, and final profession of her vows on July 31, 1935.

Sister Patricius served as a teacher at the following schools: Immaculate Conception Elementary School in West Pittston, PA, from 1942 to 1943; St. Charles Elementary School in Sugar Notch, PA, from 1943 to 1944; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1944 to 1950; St. Ann High School in Scranton, PA, from 1950 to 1952; St. John  the Evangelist High School in Pittston, PA, from 1952 to 1954; St. Michael's Industrial School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA, from 1964 to 1967; West Side Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, from 1968 to 1969; Bishop Klonowski High School in Scranton, PA, 1977 to 1978; Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from 1978 to 1985; St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI; St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY; Gabriel Richard High School in Wyandotte, MI, from 1967 to 1968; and at schools located in Manhasset, NY, and Altoona, PA.

Sister also served as librarian at the spiritual renewal library at the IHM Generalate in Scranton, PA, from 1985 to 1998.

From 1998 until the time of her death, Sister Patricius served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in history from Villanova University.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella McAndrew and Mary Tigue, and two brothers, Joseph and Patrick.

She is survived by a niece, Patricia Dobbs of Avoca, PA, and two nephews, Walter Tigue of Avoca, PA, and Joseph Tigue of Sayre, PA, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Wednesday between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
