Sister M. Simeon Walker, IHM

Sister M. Simeon Walker, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on April 9, 1978 at the St. Rose Convent in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Casey, she was born on July 29, 1899 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary Anna.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 29, 1917, received the religious habit on January 3, 1918, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1919.

Sister Simeon served as teacher at the following schools: St. Alphonsus in New York City, from 1920 to 1927; St. John in Pittston, from 1927 to 1928; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills, NY, from 1928 to 1942; Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rocky Mount, NC, from 1942 to 1943; Sacred Hearts in New York City, from 1943 to 1944; St. Alphonsus in New York City, from 1944 to 1946; St. Ann in Scranton, from 1946 to 1948; St. Ephrem in Brooklyn, NY, from 1948 to 1953; St. Raymond in Lynbrook, NY, from 1953 to 1957; and St. Charles in Sugar Notch, from 1959 to 1971.

Sister Simeon also served as a secretary at tutor at St. Rose School in Carbondale, from 1971 to 1978. 

She is preceded in death by a brother, Joseph.

She is survived by a brother, Vincent T. of Ridley Park; two sisters, Aniceta Walker of Carbondale, and Sister M. Ambrose, IHM, of Scranton; nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

Sister Simeon Walker was a kind, obliging sister who found nothing too difficult to do for others. Her work with older students was outstanding and they were well prepared to face the future. She was greatly respected by those who knew her.
