Sister M. Charisse Hayes, IHM

Sister M. Charisse Hayes, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, July 1, 1985, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on January 19, 1907 in Mansfield, Washington, and given the name Lena Mary. She was the daughter of the late James P. and Mary Jane Spiva Hayes. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 6, 1927, received the religious habit on August 15, 1927, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1929.

Sister Charisse served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Mary of the Mount School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Paul School in Scranton, PA; IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID; and St. Lawrence Academy in Portland, OR.  

Sister also served as librarian at the IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID; curriculum librarian at Marywood College in Scranton, PA; and support staff member at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She is preceded in death by five brothers, Lawrence A, Frank. G., James Griswold, Patrick John, and James L.

She is survived by two brothers, Joseph Michael of Everett, WA, and Terrence E. of Bridgeport, WA, nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
