Sister M. Patrick Quinnan, IHM
Sister M. Patrick Quinnan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, October 31, 1919 at St. Patrick's Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on February 9, 1863 in Lancashire, England, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine Timlin Quinnan. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1895, received the religious habit on July 1, 1895, and made profession of her vows on July 24, 1897.
Sister Patrick enjoyed her years of teaching children in our IHM missions, St. Rose Academy in Carbondale, PA, and St. John Academy in Pittston, PA. She also served in child care for resident children at St. Patrick's Orphanage in Scranton, PA.
She is survived by a brother, Reverend P.J. Quinnan.
The funeral will be on Monday, November 3, with Mass of Requiem celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 1403 Jackson Street, West Scranton. Interment will follow at the Marywood College Cemetery, on the grounds of Marywood College in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at St. Patrick's Convent on Sunday afternoon or evening.

Many Attend Funeral of St. Patrick's Orphanage Nun
The funeral of Sister Mary Patrick of St. Patrick's Orphanage, took place this morning with a solemn high mass of requiem in St. Patrick's Church at 9:30 o'clock. The Rev. P.J. Quinnan, brother of Sister Patrick, celebrated the mass. Rev. T. J. Comerford, of Archbald, was deacon; Rev. Dr. George Lucas, of St. Patrick's church, was subdeacon.
The Rev. E. O'Boyle, of St. Patrick's and Rev. Paul Kelly, of the Cathedral, were master of ceremony, Bishop Hoban preached the sermon and gave absolution. The bishop referred to Sister Patrick's many years of service as an instructor in the several parochial schools throughout the diocese, and paid a fine tribute to the work of the sisterhood, devoting their lives to the education of the youth, to the moulding of character and developing of future citizenship and the directing of young souls along the path that leads to eternal salvation. Said he, "This is All Souls day and while we are gathered here in prayer and sacrifice for the repose of this woman's soul she is sharing at present in the prayers of millions of Catholics throughout the world who are today asking God's mercy on the souls of the departed." The sisters choir of Mt. St. Mary's sang the mass and chanted the responses. The following priests were present in the sanctuary: Rev. T. Whyte, Rev. R. Reap, Rev. George Dixon, and Rev. R. Jordan, of Pittston; Rev. E. Caulfield, of Whites Ferry; Rev. J.E. Donnelly, Rev. William Kealey, Rev. H. Brennan, Rev. P. Kelly, Rev. John McHale, and Rev. P. C. Winters, of Scranton; Rev. H.J. Geraghty, of Dickson City; Rev. P. Kane, Rev. Thomas McHugh, and Rev. J. Boyle, of Scranton; Rev. J.J. O'Donnell, of Inkerman; Rev. F.J. Mack, of Old Forge; Rev. M.F. Sweeney, of Avoca; Rev. E. O'Boyle and Rev. William Lavin, of Scranton; Rev. J.J. Loughran and Rev. W.J. Flynn, of Scranton; Rev. John Cox, of Pittston; Rev. William J. Healey, of Wilkes-Barre; Rev. John Kelly, of Parsons; and Rev. P. Kane, of Scranton.
Sisters representing the various convents throughout the diocese were present. There was a large delegation of men and women from Carbondale, Pittston, and Wyoming, Sister Patrick having been stationed at both Carbondale and Pittston and her brother, Father Quinnan, was formerly pastor at Wyoming. At the conclusion of the mass the body was borne to Mt. St. Mary's cemetery. Interment was made. Father Quinnan recited the prayers for the dead. The Magnificat was sung by Rev. T.J. Comerford, Rev. Dr. J. Boyle, Rev. Paul Kelly, Rev. Dr. P.C. Winters, Rev. John O'Malley, and Rev. W.J. Flynn.
The casket bearers were: P.F. Connor, of Carbondale; John Cawley, of Archbald; George Timlin, of Taylor; Dr. T.F. Fleming, of Wyoming; T.A. Grace of Pittston; William Munley, of Wyoming; Thomas Kane, Dr. J.J. Carroll, W.J. Vanston, Joseph Taylor, T.J. McHugh, and P.F. Ryan, of Scranton.
