Sister M. Rosalia McGarry, IHM

Sister M. Rosalia McGarry, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, October 6, 1977, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on May 24, 1912 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and given the name Margaret. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret Moran McGarry. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1931, made temporary profession of her vows on August 2, 1933, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1936.

Sister Rosalia served as a teacher in the following schools: Mother of Mercy School in Little Washington, NC, from 1933 to 1934; St. Paul School in New Bern, NC, from 1934 to 1945; All Saints School  in Masontown, PA, from 1945 to 1947 and 1965 to 1955; St. Mary of the Mount School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1947 to 1951 and 1966 to 1967; St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1951 to 1959; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY, from 1959 to 1965; and South Scranton Central Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, from 1967 to 1970.

Sister also served as a nursing assistant at the Marian Convent in Scranton, from 1970 to 1975.

From 1975 until the time of her death, Sister Rosalia served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Patrick, Francis, Marvin and Eugene, and a sister, Mary.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Interment is St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
