Sister Joann Bellomo, IHM
Sister Joann Bellomo, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Ronald), of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, May 30, 1999 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on April 13, 1922 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Vincent and Gertrude Anzalone Bellomo. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1943, made her temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1946, and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1949.
Sister Joann served as a teacher at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1950 to 1953; St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore, PA, from 1953 to 1960; St. Matthew Elementary School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from 1978 to 1979; Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Inwood, NY; St. Ann Elementary School in Nyack, NY; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY; St. Matthew Elementary School in Wilmington, DE; as well as at elementary schools located in Altoona, PA, and Manhasset, NY.
Sister also served as an instructor at the Educational Enrichment Institute at the IHM Center in Scranton, PA, from 1988 to 1990.
From 1990 until the time of her death, Sister Joann served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Marywood College, and was a member of the National Catholic Educational Association.
She is survived by four sisters, Carmella Alyea and Margaret De Bacco, both of Nutley, NJ, Lena Militello of Totowa, NJ, and Lucy Alu of North Bergen, NJ, several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
