Sister M. Moira McMonagle, IHM

Sister M. Moira McMonagle, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Wednesday, September 9, 1992, at the Marian Community Hospital in Car­bondale, Pennsylvania.

She was born on March 13, 1914 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and given the name Rose M. She was the daughter of the late Maurice and Marie Forestal McMonagle. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1932, received the religious habit on April 24, 1933, and made profession of her vows on April 30, 1935.

Sister Moira served as a teacher at the following schools: Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Clare Elementary School in Scranton; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore, PA; as well as at schools located in New York, Maryland, North Carolina, and Oregon. 

Sister also served on the support staff at St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; and St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; and as a catechetical instructor at local parishes.

From 1989 until the time of her death, Sister Moira served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton.

She earned a Bachelor's degree in education, and Master's degree in education, both from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice.

She is survived by three brothers, Thomas of Carritos, California, and Stanely of Romoland, California, and Joseph of Westland, Michigan, four sisters, Regina of Los Angeles, California, Marie Romar of Reseda, California, Anna Butler of Oequeoc, Michigan, and Claire Goode of Canoga Park, California, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Monday, September 14 with Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 P.M. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will be held on Tuesday morning, September 15 at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania.  Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday afternoon.
