Sister M. Crescentia Mullen, IHM
Sister M. Crescentia Mullen, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, May 15, 1960 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on December 27, 1891 in Archbald, Pennsylvania, and given the name Theresa (Tessie). She was the daughter of the late John and Bridget Gallagher Mullen. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1918, received the religious habit on August 3, 1918, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1920.
Sister Crescentia served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1920 to 1922; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1922 to 1923; St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York, NY, from 1923 to 1928; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA, from 1928 to 1935; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1935 to 1950; and St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA, from 1950 to 1957.
From 1957 until the time of her death, Sister Crescentia served in prayer ministry at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by a sister Catherine (Katie), and a brother, John Joseph.
She is survived by a sister, Sister M. Lucina, IHM, of Scranton, PA.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

All who knew this beloved Sister, and especially those who were close to her in her long months of suffering, are of one accord in proclaiming that Sister M. Crescentia Mullen is a saint. The Marian Convent chaplain does not hesitate to state that in her he recognized the greatest evidence of sanctity that he has ever seen. All who visited her in her long illness were deeply impressed by her charity, her patience, and her total conformity to God's holy will. Sister M. Crescentia was a humble, gentle religious, and a kind, considerate teacher, beloved by her Sisters and pupils. May her holy, humble spirit be long with us, and may God reward her holy patient life and her endurance of suffering and grant her eternal rest.
