Sister M. Immaculee Cavanaugh, IHM

Sister M. Immaculee Cavanaugh, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, July 7, 1989, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on March 27, 1907, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Bridget Devine Cavanaugh. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1928, received the religous habit on August 15, 1928, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1930.

Sister Immaculee served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. John the Evangelist High School in Pittston, PA; Pocono Central Catholic High School in Cresco, PA; and St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA; and as at schools located in Forest Hills, NY.

Sister Immaculee served as principal at St. Alphonsus High School in New York, NY, and at Notre Dame High School, East Stroudsburg, PA. She also served as principal and superior at St. Paul School in Cranston, RI, from 1955 to 1961.

Upon retirement to the Marian Convent in 1982, she served for a time as director of the Associate Program for the IHM Congregation in Scranton, PA.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, Peter, Joseph and Francis, and an aunt in community, Sister M. Magdalen Devine, IHM.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Monday afternoon or evening.
