Sister M. Graecia Mangin, IHM

Sister M. Graecia Mangin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on September 25, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York, and given the name Elizabeth Patricia. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth Connor Mangin.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1934, made her temporary profession of vows on April 30, 1937 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1940.

Sister Graecia served as teacher and guidance counselor at the following schools: St. John High School in Susquehanna, PA, from 1948 to 1949; St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA, from 1950 to 1959 and 1966 to 1970; Bishop Hannan High School in Scranton, PA, from 1975 to 1986; St. Raymond in East Rockaway, NY; and Most Holy Rosary in Syracuse, NY; and at schools located in Lock Haven and Pittsburgh, PA, Forest Hills, NY, Coeur d'Alene, ID, and La Plata, MD.

Sister also served as a dietary aide at the Marian Convent, from 1986 to 1987.

From 1987 until the time of her death, Sister Graecia served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in science and a Master of Arts degree in guidance counseling, both from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in home economics from New York University. She had been a member of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Guidance Association and served as its recording secretary.

She is survived by cousins, Sister Agnes Cunningham, OP, of Congers, NY, and Susan Semple of Huntington, NY.

The funeral will be Friday, November 19 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
