Sister M. St. Agnes Moran, IHM

Sister M. St. Agnes Moran, IHM, Ed.D., of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Wednesday, September 28, 1983 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an extended illness.

She was born on June 6, 1895 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Alice. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Bridget O'Boyle Moran. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 14, 1924, received the religious habit on December 29, 1924, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1926. 

Sister St. Agnes served as a business teacher at in the following schools: St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. John the Evangelist High School in Pittston, PA; St. Paul High School in Scranton, PA; St. Joseph High School in Williamsport, PA; and at high schools located in New York City, NY.

Sister also served as the head of the Business Education Department, as well as assistant to the registrar and treasurer at at Marywood College in Scranton, PA; registrar and accountant at St. Michael's School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA; and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA.

When the Marian Convent Guild was formed in 1970, Sister St. Agnes became moderator/secretary of the lay membership, and she served in that post for seven years.

From 1977 until the time of her death, Sister St. Agnes served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She earned a Master of Arts degree from Marywood College, and a Doctor of Education degree in business education and research from New York University.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Andrew and John, and four sisters, Mary, Kathryn, Charlotte, and Agnes.

She is survived by a sister, Angela of Scranton, PA, and a niece, Margaret.

The funeral will be Friday, September 30 with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will be follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Thursday afternoon and evening.
