Sister M. Terence McGirr, IHM

Sister M. Terence McGirr, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Saturday, July 25, 1992 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on January 27, 1913 in Port Washinton, New York, and was the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine Gellis McGirr. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1935, was received into the novitiate on August 2, 1935, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1937.

Sister Terence served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA; and St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI; as well as schools located in Maryland and New York.

She is preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine, Ann and Mary, and a brother, Thomas.

She is survived by two brothers, Terence of Tenefly, NJ and Reverend Patrick McGirr of Bayside, NY; three sisters, Mary Howard and Margaret McGirr of Flushing, NY, and Sister Catherine Patricia, IHM, of Scranton, PA; and nieces and nephews. 

The funeral will be Tuesd, July 28 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday afternoon or evening.
