Sister Maria Clement Buckley, IHM

Sister Maria Clement Buckley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Monday, April 13, 1992 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, PA, after an illness.

She was born on October 29, 1903, in the Minooka-section of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Marion. She was daughter of the late John F. and Sarah Stanton Buckley, and the step-daughter of the late Laura Halpin Buckley.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 20, 1925, received the religious habit on December 28, 1925, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1927.

Sister Maria Clement served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School in Sugar Notch, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; and St. Paul School in Cranston, RI; as well as at schools located in Brooklyn, New York, and Baltimore, Maryland.

Sister Maria Clement served as principal at St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA.

Sister also served as a school secretary at Our Lady of Peace School in Clarks Green, PA, and at St. Mary School in Manhasset, NY; and superior at St. John the Evangelist Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother Reverend Clement, C.P., and a sister, Anna Ruddy.

She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Rosemary Drapek of Scranton, PA, grand­nieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, April 15  with Mass of Christan Burial at 7 p.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA, on Thursday morning. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Wednesday afternoon.
