Sister M. Rebecca Doyle, IHM

Sister M. Rebecca Doyle, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Wednesday, December 26, 1984 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on July 19, 1903 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Peter and Bridget Neary Doyle.  She entered the IHM Congregation from Holy Rosary Parish on February 2, 1921, received the religious habit on August 2, 1921, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1923.

Sister Rebecca served as a religion teacher at the following schools: South Catholic High School in Scranton, PA; Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; as well as at schools located in Pittston, PA, and New York City, NY.

Sister served as principal at St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA; St. Joseph High School in Renovo, PA; IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alele, Idaho; as well as at high schools located in Masontown and Pittsburgh, PA.

Sister Rebecca also served as a secretary at Nativity Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and at the IHM Generalate in Scranton, PA.

From 1983 until the time of her death, she has served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by four brothers, Anthony, Frank (John Francis), James and Peter.

She is survived by a sister, Florence Ferguson of Scranton, PA, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday afternoon or evening.
