Sister M. Romuald Doyle, IHM

Sister M. Romuald Doyle, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, May 23, 1999 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born August 8, 1909 in Buffalo, New York, and given the name Jane. She was the daughter of the late James and Hannah Josephine Dee Mahoney, and the adopted daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Dee Doyle. She entered the IHM Congregation on October 7, 1928, made her temporary profession of vows on April 14, 1931, and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1934.

Sister Romuald served as a teacher at the following schools: Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, PA, from 1931 to 1933, St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA, from 1935 to 1947; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA, from 1947 to 1958; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1971 to 1975; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ; as well as in elementary schools located in Manhasset, NY; and Raleigh, NC.

Sister also served as superior of the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1967 to 1969. She also served as a catechetical instructor at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish inTobyhanna, PA, from 1962 to 1966, and at St. Peter Parish in Wellsboro, PA, from 1969 to 1971.

Sister Romuald served as a prayer minister at St. Joseph's Convent in Williamsport, PA, from 1988 to 1995, and at the Marian Convent from 1995 until the time of her death.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education, and a Master of Science degree in theology education, both from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, and two sisters, Catherine Gleason and Mary Carroll.

She is suvived by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
