Sister James Marie Corcoran, IHM

Sister James Marie Corcoran, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, May 27, 1976 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on June 22, 1898 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Flynn Corcoran.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1919, received the habit on December 27, 1919, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1921.

Sister James Marie taught music at the following schools: Immaculate Conception School in Lock Haven, PA, from 1921 to 1922; St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA, from 1922 to 1923; St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA, from 1923 to 1924; All Saints School in Masontown, PA, from 1925 to 1928 and 1932 to 1933; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA, from 1930 to 1931 and 1933 to 1934; St. Leo School in Ashley, PA, from 1934 to 1938, 1940 to 1946, and 1948 to 1951; St. Matthew School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from,1937 to 1939; St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA, in 1948; and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA, in 1954. She also served as a music teacher at St. Ignatius Catechetical Center in Kingston, PA, in 1952, and St. Agnes Catechetical Center in Forest City, PA, in 1953 and 1955.

From 1956 until the time of her death, Sister James Marie served as prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
