Sister M. St. Joseph Nealon, IHM

Sister M. St. Joseph Nealon, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, November 28, 1996 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  

She was born on November 9, 1896 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Regina.  She was the daughter of the late John and Brigid Maloney Nealon.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1922, made temporary profession of her vows on December 29, 1924, and final profession of her vows on December 8, 1930.

Sister St. Joseph served as a teacher at St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; and as a business teacher and principal at St. Patrick School in Oneida, NY. She also served as a teacher at schools located in Williamsport and Hollidaysburg, PA, and New York City, NY.

From 1980 until the time of her death, Sister St. Joseph served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business education from Marywood College, and completed further study in business at New York University.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Matthew Francis, Joseph and James Gerard, and two sisters, Mary Saltry and Catherine B. Kearney.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including those living locally, Kitsy Winger, Mary Saltry Gilroy, Reverend Joseph Saltry, all of Scranton, PA, and John Saltry of Mayfield, PA.

The funeral will be Tuesday, December 3 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday after 2:00 p.m.
