Sister M. Veronica Duffy, IHM

Sister M. Veronica Duffy, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, May 27, 1970 at the Marian Convent, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. 

She was born on October 2, 1899 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, she was given the name Anna.  She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Rose Gorman Duffy.  She entered the IHM Congregation on March 19, 1918, received the religious habit on August 5, 1918, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1920.

Sister Veronica enjoyed many years of teaching Latin and English at the following schools: Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY; St. Paul School in Scranton, PA; and St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA.

Sister Veronica served as the principal at the following schools: St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY, from 1936 to 1941; and St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1940 to 1945.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter A., Donald J., and Francis A.

She is survived by a brother, Bernard of Atlanta, GA, and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
