Sister M. Monice Sullivan, IHM

Sister M. Monice Sullivan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on June 1, 1970 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Wunder Sullivan, she was born on July 21, 1905 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and given the name Martha.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1931, received the religious habit on April 21, 1932, and made profession of her vows on April 24, 1934.

Sister Monice served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Ephrem in Brooklyn, NY; St. Paul in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary in Syracuse, NY; St. John in Pittston, PA; St. Alphonsus in New York City; All Saints in Masontown, PA; St. Joseph in Danville, PA; St. Rosalia in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Joseph in Williamsport, PA; and Our Lady of Good Counsel in Inwood, RI.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Robert.

She is survived by six sisters, Sister M. Davida Sullivan, IHM, of Cresco; Sister M. Paulinus Sullivan, IHM, of Scranton; Miss Katharine Sullivan; Mrs. Marie Maloy; Mrs. Eleanor Alton; and Mrs. Betty Jane Franz, all of Pittsburgh; and a brother, Reverend Edward P. Sullivan, SJ; and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
