Sister M. Benignus Quinn, IHM

Sister M. Benignus Quinn, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, December 2, 1967 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

She was born on March 3, 1887 in Yatesville, Pennsylvania, and given the name Marie Monica. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ann Gillespie Quinn. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1916, received the religious habit on August 2, 1917, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1919.

Sister Benignus served as a teacher at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY, from 1916 to 1917; Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, from 1921 to 1932; St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA, from 1921 to 1932 and 1951 to 1955; St. John the Evangelist Elementary  School in Scranton, PA, from 1932 to 1934; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1934 to 1941; St. Patrick Elementary  School in Scranton, PA, from 1941 to 1943; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1943 to 1946; St. John the Evangelist Elementary  School in Pittston, PA, from 1946 to 1951; and St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA, from 1955 to 1956.

Sister served as a principal at St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA, from 1921 to 1932; and St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA, from 1955 to 1956.

From 1956 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sister M. Andrew and Sister M. Monica, IHM.

Interment is at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
