Sister M. Vincent Burke, IHM

Sister M. Vincent Burke, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, January 7, 1975 at Most Holy Rosary Convent in Syracuse, New York.

She was born on March 24, 1902 in Archbald, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary.  She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Loftus Burke.  She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1921, received the religious habit on December 29, 1921, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1923.

Sister Vincent served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Paul High School in Scranton, PA, in 1923; St. Leo High School in Ashley, PA, from 1924 to 1925; St. Basil High School in Dushore, PA, from 1925 to 1926; St. John High School in Pittston, PA, from 1926 to 1932; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY, from 1932 to 1936; Altoona Catholic High in Altoona, PA, from 1936 to 1942; St. Joseph High School in Williamsport, PA, from 1942 to 1943; IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID, from 1943 to 1949; Sacred Heart High School in La Plata, MD, from 1949 to 1952; St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA, from 1952 to 1955; and South Scranton Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, from 1955 to 1960. 

Sister served as principal in the following schools: IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID, from 1943 to 1949; Sacred Heart School in La Plata, MD, from 1949 to 1952; and St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA, from 1952 to 1955.

From 1960 until the time of her death, Sister Vincent served as a teacher at Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
