Sister Patricia Smith, IHM

Sister Patricia Smith, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Thursday, May 14, 1981, at Mercy Hospital in East Rockaway, New York, after an illness.

Daughter of the late John Edward and Anna Pratt Smith, she was born on August 29, 1938 in Huntington, New York. She entered the IHM Congregation in Scranton on September 7, 1957, received the religious habit on March 13, 1958, and made profession of her vows on March 14, 1960.

Sister Patricia served as an intermediate and junior high grades teacher at schools located in New Bern, Goldsboro, Greensboro, and Washington, NC; and St. Raymond in East Rockaway, NY, from October 1979 until the time of her death.

Sister served as  principal at St. Bernadette School in Goldsboro, NC.

She also served as the religion coordinator at  St. John in Susquehanna, and St. Joseph in Danville; and as a parish minister at St. Paul's Church in New Bern, NC.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Edith Heinemann of Chicago; and a brother, John Paul Smith of Arvada, Colorado.

The funeral will be Saturday at St. Raymond Church, East Rockaway, New York, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at St. Raymond Convent, East Rockaway, New York, on Friday afternoon or evening.
