Sister Mary Ellen Farrell, IHM

Sister Mary Ellen Farrell, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, July 3, 1971 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on January 24, 1882 in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, and given the name Loretta. She was the daugther of the late James and Mary Byrne Farrell.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1920, received the religious habit on December 28, 1920, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1922.

Sister Mary Ellen served as a teacher in the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Peter Cathedral School in Scranton, PA; St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY; and at elementary schools located in New York.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and James, and three sisters, Theresa Veronica O'Neil, Mary Mangan, and Agnes Ardath Farrell.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
