Sister Elizabeth Malloy, IHM

Sister Elizabeth Malloy, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. St. Elizabeth) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, August 12, 2001 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on April 18, 1918 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Mary Alice.  She was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Creedon Malloy. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1937, made her temporary profession of vows on May 7, 1940, and final profession of her vows on August 1, 1943.

Sister Elizabeth served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Paul High School in Scranton, PA, from 1962 to 1968; Sacred Heart High School in Carbondale, PA, from 1968 to 1970; Bishop Klonowski High School in Scranton, PA, from 1970 to 1978; Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from 1978 to 1982; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1987 to 1988; and St. Raymond School in East Rockaway, NY; as well as at school located in Baltimore, MD, Washington, NC, and Pittsburgh and Altoona, PA.

Sister served as a spiritual minister at the IHM Spiritual Renewal Center in Verona, NJ, and at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA. She also served as a companion for Telespond Senior Services in client homes in Clarks Green, PA. 

From 1997 until the time of her death, Sister Elizabeth served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received Bachelor of Science degree in education, and Master of Science degree in education, both from Marywood College. She held memberships in the Northeast Pennsylvania Council of Social Studies and the Pennsylvania Council of Social Studies.

She is preceded in death by five brothers, Edward, Joseph, John, James, and Robert, and a sister, Nellie Kimball.

She is survived by a brother, Joseph Paul of Scranton, PA, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Friday between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
