Sister M. Hubertine Gallagher, IHM

Sister M. Hubertine Gallagher, IHM, of the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, February 16, 1990 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on February 2, 1916 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Hubert and Mary Noone Gallagher.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1935, received the religious habit on April 30, 1936, and made profession of her vows on May 3, 1938.

Sister Hubertine taught intermediate grades at the following schools: Immaculate Conception Elementary School School in Scranton, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; Holy Name of Jesus School Elementary School in Forty-Fort, PA; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; and at IHM schools located in Forest Hills, NY, and Pitts­burgh, PA. Her most recent assignment was at Holy Trinity School in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she served as a junior high mathematics teacher.

From January 1990 until the time of her death, Sister Hubertine served as prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, James, Peter and Thomas, and two sisters, Catherine and Winifred.

She is survived by two sisters, Ann Gloskey of Scranton, PA, and Margaret Taylor of Cape Coral, FL, nieces and nephews.  

The funeral will be Tuesday, February 20 with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania.  Friends may call at the Marian Convent Monday afternoon or evening.
