Sister M. Wendan McCaffrey, IHM
Sister M. Wendan McCaffrey, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died unexpectedly while on retreat on Sunday evening, August 2, 1987 at Marywood College in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on September 28, 1901 in Clinton, Maryland, but grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Winifred M. Healey McCaffrey. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1925, received the religious habit on December 28, 1925, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1927.
Sister Wendan as a teacher and supervisor of music at the following schools: St. Mary School in Manhasset, NY; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA; Cathedral School in Scranton, PA; and St. Ann School in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Brother D. Augustine (Dominic Augustine), F.S.C., Dr. Jerome, Joseph, and Edward, and a sister, Sister M. Carina, IHM.
She is survived by a brother, Daniel, of Madison, NJ; nieces and nephews; and two cousins who are also IHM Sisters, Sister Dorothy McCaffrey, IHM, of Staten Island, NY, and Sister Angelisse Boyce, IHM, of Cresco, PA. Another cousin, Sister Mary Margaret McCaffrey, APB, of Lafayette, Indiana, also survives.
The funeral will be Wednesday, August 5 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at Saint Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Tuesday afternoon or evening.
