Sister Marie Immaculee Sardegna, IHM

Sister Marie Immaculée Sardegna, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, February 17, 2000 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on December 8, 1928 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Geramine. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Marie Manley Sardegna, and step-daughter of the late Michael Haduch. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1950, made her temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1952 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1955.

Sister Marie Immaculée served as a teacher at the following schools: Monsignor McHugh Elementary School in Cresco, PA, from 1969 to 1972; St. Patrick Elementary School, Scranton, PA, from 1972 to 1975; Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY, from 1992 to 2000; as well as at elementary schools located in Baltimore, MD.

Sister also served as a catechetical instructor at St. Ignatius Parish, Kingston, PA, from 1952 to 1953

She received Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, and a Master of Science degree in elementary education, both from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Sardegna.

She is survived by a brother, Richard Sardegna of Partlow, VA; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Tuesday, February 22 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
