Sister M. Rose Anne McConway, IHM

Sister M. Rose Anne McConway, IHM (formerly known as Sister M. Christabel) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on January 5, 2005, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on July 20,1932 in New York, NY, and given the name Rose Ann. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Ellen Connolly McConway.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1950, made temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1953 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1956.

Sister Rose Anne served as a teacher at the following schools: Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1967 to 1971; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1981 to 1984; and Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clarks Green, PA,  from 1988 to 1997. She also served in schools located in Danville, PA, Brooklyn, New York, Oyster Bay and Syracuse, NY, and Goldsboro and Rocky Mount, NC.

Sister also served as on the support staff at the Marian Convent from 1997 to 2002.

From 2002 until the time of her death, Sister Rose Anne served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in education, and Master of Science degree in education, both from Marywood College.

She is survived by a sister, Irene Deane of Bronx, NY; three brothers, Gerard of Bronx, NY, Edward of Manhattan, NY, and Daniel of Margaretville, NY; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Saturday, January 8 with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow, PA.  Friends may call on Friday afternoon at the Marian Convent.
