Sister Dorothy McDonnell, IHM

Sister Dorothy McDonnell, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. St. Crescentia) of the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Wednesday, January 23, 1980 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on July 29, 1938 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and given the name Dorothy Marguerite. She was the daughter of Francis and Marguerite Dougher McDonnell. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1956, received the religious habit on March 11, 1957, and made profession of her vows on March 12, 1959.

Sister Dorothy served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Baptist Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA; Mother of Mercy Elementary School in Washington, NC; Archbishop Neale Elementary School in LaPlata, MD; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; Wyoming Area Elementary School in Exeter, PA; and St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA.

In addition to her parents, she is also survived by a sister, Mary Beth Hickey of Philadelphia, PA; a niece and nephew.

The funeral will be Saturday, January 26 with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the IHM Generalate Chapel. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Friday afternoon or evening.
