Sister Maria Paulinus Richards, IHM

Sister Maria Paulinus Richards, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, August 31, 1984 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an extended illness.

She was born on November 18, 1911 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Ellen Kenney Richards.  She entered the IHM Congregation on March 19, 1928, received the religious habit on August 15, 1928, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1930.

Sister Maria Paulinus served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ.  She also served as a language and commercial subject teacher at the following schools: St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA; St. Leo High School in Ashley, PA; Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA; Immaculate Conception High School in Lock Haven, PA; and St. Joseph High School in Renovo, PA.

Sister also served as a librarian during the summer months at Marywood College, and in the Archives office at the IHM Center, both located in Scranton, PA. 

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Glomboski of Cape Vincent, NY, and three nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.  in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday afternoon or evening.
