Sister Mary Leo Lehman, IHM
Sister Mary Leo Lehman, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, November 24, 1961.
She was born on February 22, 1889 in Ashley, Pennsylvania, and given the name Elizabeth (Bessie). She was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Kiernan Lehman. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1918, received the religious habit on August 2, 1919, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1921.
Sister Mary Leo served as a teacher at the following schools: Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY, from 1918 to 1919; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA, from 1919 to 1922 and 1929 to 1955; St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI, from 1922 to 1927; Sacred Heart School in La Plata, MD, from 1927 to 1929; and St. Clare Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1955 to 1959.
Sister served as superior and instructor at St. Ann's Catechetical Center in Tobyhanna, PA, from 1959 to 1961.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Jennie, and two brothers, George and John.
She is survived by a sister, Loretta, two brothers, Clinton and William, nieces and nephews.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

Sister Mary Leo's service to our Congregation was varied, bountiful, and excellent. Her teaching of primary children, her care of the resident students at Marywood Seminary, and her outstanding zeal and labor at St. Ann's Catechetical School, Tobyhanna, all were signally blessed by God. All who are privileged to be admiring the handsome linens she so skillfully and so holily embroidered for His sacred service. Even as a girl before entering, she had "loved the beauty of God's house," feeling honored in embroidering linens for St. Leo's Church and convent. Innumerable were the tasks she performed at Marywood, but in God's loving memory, they are all recorded. Always she was a busy Sister, and always a very prayerful religious. May God reward her abundantly, and may He manifest His goodness to us by sending us many candidates who will serve Him so generously and so well.
