Sister M. Trinita Kelly, IHM

Sister M. Trinita Kelly, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, July 29, 1988 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness. 

She was born on June 23, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY, and given the name Isabel Teresa.  She was the daughter of the late Daniel Joseph and Julia A. Fairweather Kelly.  She entered the IHM Congregation on April 24, 1934, made first profession of her vows on April 30, 1936, and final profession of her vows on April 1, 1939. 

Sister Trinita served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York City, NY, from 1936 to 1942; Holy Trinity Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, NY, from 1970 to 1971; Our Lady of Mercy Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY, from 1971 to 1978; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1978 to 1984; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY, from 1984 to 1987; St. Thomas Elementary School in Providence, RI; St. Ambrose Elementary School in Bridgeport, CT; and at elementary schools located in New Bern, NC.

In addition to her ministry at the primary level of education, Sister Trinita also served as a music teacher and gave private piano lessons.

From 1987 until the time of her death, Sister Trinita served in prayer ministry at the Marian Convent.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Marywood College.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Daniel.

She is survived by four sisters, Sister M. Annella, IHM, Catherine O'Brien of Port Washington, New York, Rita Milhaven of Smithtown, New York, and  Helen Sargeant of Newaygo, Michigan, nieces and nephews.  

The funeral will be on Tuesday, August 2, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania.  Friends may call on Monday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
