Sister M. Redempta Doudican, IHM

Sister M. Redempta Doudican, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, December 15, 1955. 

She was born on June 16, 1889 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary.  She was the daughter of the late Thomas J. (T.J.) and Catherine McDonald Doudican.  She entered the IHM Congregation on December 8, 1911, received the religious habit on August 2, 1912, and made profession of her vows on August 3, 1914.  As a novice, she was known as Sister Mary of the Angels, but received a name change at profession to Sister M. Redempta.

Sister Redempta enjoyed her years of teaching students in our IHM mission schools, including at St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School in Rocky Mount, NC.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

Archival Remembrance:

Sister M. Redempta Doudican served the Community in quiet dignity.  The gracious manner which characterized her long and fruitful life, was evident shortly before she breathed her last breath, as she gently asked the attendant Sisters to go to rest.
