Sister Mary Grace Flanagan, IHM

Sister Mary Grace Flanagan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, November 25, 1934 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on April 29, 1861 in Clinton Township, Pennsylvania, and given the name Alice Anne. She was the daughter of the late James and Susan Julia Boland Flanagan. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1892, received the religious habit on November 22, 1892, and made profession of her vows on January 1, 1895.

Sister Mary Grace served in child care for resident children at the following: Catholic Childcare Center in Hollidaysburg, PA; St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA; and St. Joseph's Infant Hospital in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Julia, and four brothers, James, Michael, John, and Patrick.

She is survived by a sister, Mary J. McDermott, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 27 at 9:30 am at St. Rose Chapel in Carbondale. Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery in Carbondale.  Friends may call on Monday afternoon or evening at St. Rose's Convent in Carbondale.

CARBONDALE, Nov. 25. - Sister Mary Grace, 67, one of the best known members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Order, died at 8:30 o'clock this morning in St. Joseph's Hospital after a brief illness. She had been stationed at St. Rose Convent for the past four years.

Born at Clinton Township, she was Miss Alice Flanagan before entering religious life. She was the daughter of the late James and Susan Flanagan, natives of Ireland. She entered St.  Rose Novitiate, this city, on Nov. 8, 1892, and received the habit of the order three weeks later. She pronounced her final vows on Jan. 1 1895.

She had been engaged in the work of the community of sisters at Hollidaysburg, Pa., St. Cecilia's Convent and St. Joseph's Infant Hospital, Scranton

The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning with a mass of solemn requiem in St. Rose Chapel at 9:30 o'clock. Interment will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery."
