Sister M. Petrina Maher, IHM

Sister M. Petrina Maher, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Sunday, August 27, 1978, at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an extended illness.

She was born on May 8, 1915 in Oneida, NY, and given the name Marjorie.  She was the daughter of the late George and Helen Cashman Maher. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1933, received the religious habit on April 24, 1934, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1939.

Sister Petrina served as a teacher of Latin at the following schools: IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID; St. Edward in Twin Falls, ID; St. Rosalia in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Mary of the Mount in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Michael's School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA; Most Holy Rosary in Syracuse, NY; St. Dominic in Oyster Bay, NY; and St. Patrick in Scranton, PA.

From 1970 until the time of her death, Sister Petrina served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She is survived by a twin sister, Kate Lyons of Miami, Florida, a niece and a nephew.

The funeral will be Tuesday, August 29, from the Marian Convent Chapel at Marywood with the Mass of Resurrection at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Monday afternoon or evening.
